The Makers Crate Company is thrilled to have another talented maker on board.
Michael Harlick of Black Hen Studio, Conception Harbour, NL, is a trained goldsmith and metalsmith who has been mastering his craft for over 15 years. Starting out at the age of 19, Michael was working on a chainmail project which was seen by a local goldsmith. Immediately impressed, the goldsmith invited Michael to visit his studio. During this visit, he asked Michael to try his hand at jewelry making, which ultimately turned into a ten-year apprenticeship. Michael made the move to a propane driven forge two years ago. The transition from sitting over a small bench, gently shaping precious metals, to standing at an anvil swinging with all of his might, came very natural to him.
His patience and skills working in small forms with silver and gold have led him to create beautifully detailed work out of iron, on a much larger scale. Michael is the recipient of the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Award for Excellence in Craft and the Atlantic Craft Alliance’s Award for Excellence in Craft Design. His goal is for every piece he creates is for it to be as beautiful as it is functional. The Makers Crate Company is proud to sell two of his signature hand-forged snake pendants.
