Peace By Chocolate
Tareq and Isam Hadhad
In 1986 Isam Hadhad started a family chocolate business out of his grandmother’s kitchen in Damascus, Syria. Over the years his business grew to employ 30 people and he shipped his wonderful chocolates all over the Middle East. Then, civil war struck Syria and like much of their homeland, the Hadhad chocolate factory was destroyed in a bombing that forced their family to leave everything behind and flee to refugee camps in Lebanon. The Hadhad family spent 3 years in these camps before finally being invited to emigrate to Canada in 2016. With the support of their new community and the people of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, the Hadhads, led by eldest son Tareq, rebuilt their chocolate company and are once again doing the work they love.
Peace by Chocolate’s products are all handmade in their facility in Antigonish, using only the finest ingredients. The Hadhads’ appetite for excellence runs through every chocolate. They passionately combine a blend of Syrian fillings and ingredients including local fresh organic honey, 100% pure juices, nuts, fruits and spices. And in so doing, they create a little slice of heaven with every sweet. From beautiful shaped hearts of chocolate to maple leafs and roses, their chocolates have the ability to make any day sweeter, be it for a special occasion or just a sweet treat. After all, one peace won’t hurt!
