The Green Cod
Born in the French Alps, Denis Abrard spent his childhood on a farm in an environment close to nature and manual work. His school orientation and first work experiences in Provence and in Brittany were in the domain of agriculture. Over the past eighteen years, he gradually took up wood carving, producing carved wooden murals. And in 2005, he decided to devote all of his time to his passion for woodworking and he pursued studies at the School of Furniture Making in Victoriaville, Quebec. During these two years of schooling, he discovered marquetry and acquired a taste for antique rural heritage.
In 2007, Denis moved from Quebec to Newfoundland, attracted by the rich culture, heritage and wildlife of this Atlantic region. As an avid fly-fisherman, he found the area an exceptional environment for this sport and a way to combine his two biggest passions through salmon woodcarving.
From unique furniture to immaculate fish-carving and fly-plates, most of Denis’ work today is about the great outdoors and the fantastic fishing environment of Newfoundland and Labrador
